Description
This page from Science NetLinks contains a guide to resources for information about historical and current spaceflight. Created to mark the 50th anniversary of the Sputnik launch and the beginning of the space race, this page will be updated frequently to include new resources that would be useful in the classroom. The page includes links to resources for a wide age range. Many of these have been created by Science NetLinks. Others are good resources that have been created around specific missions or events. Often missions or launches include educational outreach components and various agencies within NASA have ongoing educational websites or projects.
Using the Resource
This resource is intended to guide teachers and educators to materials that can be useful for studying a wide array of topics ranging from space technology to astronomy to biology. Spaceflight also presents an interesting context in which to explore the societal benefits and risks of technology. Many scientific advances have been made in our human quest to explore space, and these have benefited us in ways that go beyond space travel. For example, we rely on satellites for much of our communications technology today. Space exploration also has enabled us to advance our understanding of the universe and the forces that govern it.
