Description
This Science NetLinks resource offers parents, caregivers, and daycare providers science resources for the summer. Science Summer Fun resources are divided between three pages: Books to Interest, Educate, and Encourage, which offers reading suggestions from picture books to those designed to interest high schoolers; Experiments and Activities for Exploring the World around Us, which includes traditional kid-friendly, hands-on experiments and activities particularly well-suited to warm weather; and Interactive Computer Fun for Time Spent Inside, which features science-themed online games.
Using the Resource
Designed to be used by those without a science background, this set of resources offers a way to help children learn without having formal training in the subject area. Take the book list to the library to supplement summer reading. The hands-on page offers fun experiments that can be completed with materials generally found around the house. And the online page has computer games that are both educational and safe for children to use. These resources are perfect for those who want to include more informal science during school holidays and vacations.
